Every year on Founder's Day at the Teaching Awards Luncheon outstanding faculty members are honored with teaching awards and distinguished professorships.

| This is the most prestigious academic appointment Indiana University can offer an individual faculty member. The rank of distinguished professor honors outstanding scholarship, artistic or literary distinction, or other achievements that have won significant recognition by peers. | |
| Distinguished Teaching Awards | |

The purpose of these awards is to call attention to the importance of teaching as well as to recognize those who have demonstrated excellence. Cash awards for each these distinctions become permanent supplements to the awardee's salary as long as the awardee remains employed at Indiana University. Awards in this category include:

| Thomas Ehrlich for Excellence in Service and Learning | |

This faculty distinction recognizes excellence in service learning and includes a cash award. The recipient will become the IU nominee for the national Campus Compact Thomas Ehrlich Award for Service Learning the following year. |

| W. George Pinnell Award for Outstanding Service | |
| Deadline: November 20, 2009 | |
| This award is intended to recognize outstanding service by faculty members or librarians in the same way that other annual awards recognize distinguished teaching. Recipients receive a cash award of $1,000. | |
| John W. Ryan Award for Distinguished Contributions to International Programs and Studies | |
| Deadline: November 21, 2009 | |
| This award honors Indiana University faculty members for exceptional contributions to the University’s international programs and studies. Up to two awards, which both include a cash award of $1,000, are given each year within the IU system. | |
| FACET (Faculty Colloquium on Excellence in Teaching) | |
Nominations due: November 10, 2009 |

| FACET is more than a one-time teaching award. Throughout the year, FACET members are involved in collaborative activities at the campus, state-wide, and national levels, promoting inquiry and engagement in teaching and learning. | |
