You may meet some of them face-to-face at the New Faculty Orientation on September 12th, but perhaps by then some of them will seem like old friends.
IUPUI sponsors a rich and extensive new faculty orientation. Faculty are welcomed at the beginning of the academic year in formal ways and then engaged in a series of conversations throughout the year on issues and topics central to becoming a valued member of the IUPUI community. The University Faculty Council is the primary academic and faculty policymaker for the Indiana University system. In addition, each campus has its own faculty governing body. The IUPUI Faculty Council advises the Chancellor, the Indiana University and Purdue University Presidents, and the Boards of Trustees on all matters pertaining to faculty interests in policies, faculty advancement and other aspects of faculty life.

The Black Faculty and Staff Council (BFSC) was established in 1978 with the following objectives: to facilitate interaction among Black faculty, staff and students; to address issues at the university that are of vital and mutual concern; to promote the professional development of Black faculty and staff; to motivate and encourage Black students to excel in their academic endeavors and to support them in their efforts to present a positive image on campus; to plan and work toward the full growth and development of the larger community.
